One of the most dangerous things that can be done, perhaps, is to become so concerned about one of our enemies weapons that we neglect to remember that they have others, which may be virtually as dangerous and, as a result, as much of a concern. Such may be the case in regarding those nations in the mid-east who think poorly of both the US and Israel. While everyone is acutely aware of, and worried about, Iran and it’s goal of nuclear weaponry, it is important that we not forget about Syria and her chemical warfare stockpile. In an article he recently posted, Graham Smith made several most salient points about this, including the information below:
- Syria has undeclared arsenals of sarin nerve agent, mustard gas, cyanide
- U.S. officials fear Assad may want to use weapons against rebels or civilians
- Others believe he is trying to safeguard stockpile from his opponents
We can, however, take solace in the Word of God, for in Isaiah 54:17 we are told, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper.” While that is true for all nations whose God is the Lord, Israel has even a better promise! Jeremiah 51: 20 says, “Thou are my battle-axe and weapons for war; for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms.” Destruction, however, is not what we are told to pray for. Rahter, Psalm 122:6 advises us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and that is something that needs to be accomplished unceasingly in this day and age.
“Dear Heavenly Father, we come on bended knee to heed your directions to pray for the Peace of Jerusalem. As the enemies of Israel and your chosen people plot, scheme, and arm for war, we thank you that you have promised that no weapon formed againt them will prosper. Thank you, Lord, for your protection and care. Amen.”
