Islamic extremists have continually refused to accept the historical fact of the Nazi slaughtering of millions of Jews during World War II. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been the “director and lead soloist of the mass choir of anti-Semitists” who staunchly deny that the Holocaust ever happened. The terrorist organization, Hamas, makes up a large section of the “choir.” Last week an official of the Palestinian Authority visited Auschwitz, the infamous Nazi death camp where 1.5 million innocent Jews were gassed, burned, and buried. That visit has not set well with Hamas and others.
Zaid al-Bandak is an official advisor on Christian affairs to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. He visited the Auschwitz site last week at the invitation of a Polish foundation. He visited prisoner blocks, gas chambers, and crematoriums in the complex, and laid flowers and a light at the site of the Death Wall monument. The flowers and light were placed in memory of the Jews who were slain and of Polish resistance fighters who were summarily executed in front of the wall.
It needs to be pointed out that Mr. Bandak is not the first Muslim to visit Auschwitz, although such visits are rare. In 2007 the Israel and Palestinian ambassadors visited the site together. A delegation of Muslim dignitaries from Morocco, Jordan, Turkey, and Iraq paid a visit just last year. Nonetheless, Mr. Bandak has raised the ire of officials of Hamas.
Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas spokesman lashed out against Bandak’s visit saying that, “This visit is useless to the Palestinian cause and only benefits the Israeli occupation by propagating the lie of the Holocaust.” He added, “The false Israeli narrative was refuted beyond doubt. They have exaggerated what happened in order to garner international sympathy. Over the past years this has come at the expense of the Palestinian people.”
A columnist for the Hamas supported newspaper Felesteen asked rhetorically, “Who among us believes that Hitler burned six million Jews? Neither we nor the Jews believe that. The world lives in a state of deception and hypocrisy call the Holocaust.” The Maan news agency, reporting on Bandak’s visit, referred to Auschwitz as “the place where bodies were allegedly burned.” The latter reported that, “This visit has no moral justification. It stands outside the national consensus and beyond political correctness.” (Note to Maan: That more appropriately describes the killing of six million Jews).
Denying historical fact does not change it. Revising history only changes the words in text books. Refusal to acknowledge the deeds of evil men does not relieve them of guilt or accountability. The paradox of the extremist Muslim agenda is that, although they want to deny that six million Jews died horrible deaths at the hands of the Nazis, they have pledged to completely wipe the Jews from the pages of time.
Historic events can be denied without retribution, but denying that Jehovah is the one true and living God, the Creator of the universe, and the King of all Kings; denying His authority and love; and seeking to wipe out His chosen people, is a path that leads to certain destruction. Let us pray that the world never again sees a slaughter of the Jews. Let us pray that God will intervene on Israel’s behalf. Let us pray for the peace and protection of Jerusalem. And let us pray that God will lift the scales from the eyes of these men of evil intentions, and dismay them with His glory so that they turn from their wicked ways and toward His loving hands.
